Delays in the settlement of the conflict in Syria are unacceptable under any pretexts, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem.
"Today, when the terrorist threat is hanging over the entire Middle East region and far beyond, there should be no more pretexts for delaying the political process," RIA Novosti cited him as saying.
According to the Russian minister, the sides are planning to exchange views during the talks in Moscow "on the current situation in Syria and the implementation of the provisions of UN Security Council resolutions by international and regional players."
Lavrov stressed that Russia will continue to support Syria in fighting terrorist groups.
The Foreign Minister added that Russia is actively working with other countries of the region, European nations and the United States "to see our common policy priorities in the Middle East," Sergey Lavrov said.
