Leader of Russia’s leftist movement Trudovaya Rossia (Working Russia) Viktor Anpilov has died of a blood stroke at the age of 72, a former member of the Russian State Duma lower parliament house, Darya Mitina, said.
"On January 13, Anpilov was on his way to a meeting of [Communist candidate for Russian president Pavel] Grudinin with his proxies when he had a massive stroke. He died several hours ago after spending three days in a state of coma at hospital," TASS cited her as saying.
Viktor Anpilov was born on October 2, 1945, in Russia's Krasnodar Krai. He joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1972. He worked as a Soviet journalist in Latin America. In 1990, Anpilov was nominated as candidate for the Congress of People's Deputies and Moscow city Soviet.
In 1992, Anpilov became the leader of the movement Labour Russia. In 1999, his movement joined the coalition Stalin Bloc - For the USSR. In 2007 he took part in the Dissenters March. On the 2012 presidential election, he supported Vladimir Zhirinovsky's candidature.
