Los Angeles may compete with Baku for 2024 Olympic Games

Los Angeles may compete for the right to become the candidate from the United States to host the 2024 Olympic Games after the withdrawal of Boston, USOC Chairman Larry Probst said.

"We continue to believe that a US bid for the 2024 Games can be successful. At the end of the meeting our board focused our discussion on a potential bid by Los Angeles. The board authorized USOC CEO Scott Blackmun to work with Los Angeles to further explore the viability of a bid for the 2024 Olympic Games," TASS cited him as saying.

In his turn, Blackmun noted the high productivity of negotiations between the NOC and the city authorities. "Our discussions with LA to date have been very, very positive but there are complicated issues in the discussion. We would love to have this wrapped up by the end of August," the executive director said.

According to US media, the approximate budget for the Games could be $4 billion.

Hamburg, Paris, Rome and Toronto are in the race to host the 2024 Games, while Baku is a possible candidate. The IOC will vote on the 2024 host in 2017.
