Russia’s main New Year tree will be decorated near the Kremlin for the New Year holidays on December 21.
It was felled in the Domodedovo District of the Moscow Region today. The tree will be delivered to the Kremlin’s Cathedral Square on December 17.
The head of the regional forestry committee, Ivan Sovetnikov, said that the tree is about 90 years old and 27 meters tall, the diameter of its trunk is 60 centimeters.
The search for a perfect fir tree for the Kremlin began in Moscow forests months ago, TASS reported.
On December 26, the tree will be unveiled and take center stage on traditional children's holiday shows in the Kremlin, set to delight 6,000 children from all Russian regions, as well as Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
