Maria Zakharova to Vestnik Kavkaza: human relations energy to help overcome differences between Russia and Georgia

There were different stages in the bilateral Russian-Georgian relations, both positive and negative, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, said, answering a question from Vestnik Kavkaza about contacts between the two countries.

She noted that "there were years that can be described as the years of close contacts."

"Unfortunately, because of unresolved problems, today Russia and Georgia are experiencing the absence of diplomatic relations, but everyone knows and everyone understands that contacts between people and nations never stopped," the diplomat stressed.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed hope to improve bilateral relations.

"We believe that the energy which is inherent in relations between the peoples of Russia and Georgia, among the peoples of our two countries, will allow to overcome political differences and reach a new stage in our relations," Maria Zakharova concluded.
