The current Ukrainian government's attempts to play a double game are doomed to failure, the Russian Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Maria Zakharova said today, answering a question from the corespondent of Vestnik Kavkaza.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko visited Israel's Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Complex on the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day, while a bas-relief dedicated to Symon Petliura, the initiator of the pogroms of Jews in Ukraine, was opened in Kiev. Zakharova described Poroshenko's behavior as a "medical condition."
"If we evaluate it from the political standpoint, then Kiev took a very strange position, intending to please everyone at once - no one has ever succeeded at this, and most importantly, it has always had unfortunate results. People who do not just engage in political activities and head the states, but also declare their intention to resolve a very difficult crisis (including those rooted in history) should have a principled position on fundamental issues," the official spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry stressed.
"The Second World War, the Great Patriotic War are fundamental questions. In this case, it is not a matter of compromise assessments, it's a matter of a principled position and finding a way for the state to exist through creating a unifying agenda. There should be a principled assessment and the creation of a unifying agenda. But everything was different here, according to a completely opposite scenario - the lack of principled assessments and maneuvering via a compromise," Maria Zakharova noted.
"No good comes of maneuvering via a compromise without preserving principled positions on matters of principle," she concluded.
