The speaker of Russia’s Federation Council, Valentina Matviyenko, said that Russia's participation in the fight against international terrorism in Syria has prompted other countries to step up their anti-terrorist actions.
"Russia has convincingly demonstrated its leadership, both military and political, in this struggle, which is important for the entire world," she told the Parliamentary newspaper.
According to the senator, the decision to go "on the front line of the fight against international terrorism" wasn't spontaneous.
The speaker of Russia’s Federation Council is confident that "only by uniting the efforts of the entire international community is it possible to defeat modern terrorism." Matviyenko noted that Russian troops "are fighting in Syria, first of all, for Russia, for the security of their country, for the lives of our citizens."
"The position and actions of the Russian President are supported by an overwhelming majority of people in our country," the head of the Federation Council summed up.
