McGregor may replace Nurmagomedov at UFC 242

Irish professional mixed martial arts fighter and boxer Conor McGregor may step into the main event at UFC 242 on September 7 in Abu Dhabi, UFC president Dana White said.

Speaking at the UFC 240 post-event news conference, White said he recently spoke to McGregor, whom he says is looking to see how things go between lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and interim titleholder Dustin Poirier at UFC 242.

And should something happen to either fighter, White has hinted that McGregor is willing to step in.

"I talked to him last week, he wants to come back. Really what he’s doing is looking to see how everything plays out in September," White said about McGregor.

"You know how this business works: anything can happen and usually does. So I think he’s just sort of waiting to see how it all plays out and does he have an opportunity somewhere to jump in and make something happen," MMA Junkie cited the UFC president as saying.
