Merkel: 'secondary migration' should be curbed

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that 'secondary migration' should not be allowed, and that migrants should not be able to determine in which European country their asylum applications are processed.

However she expressed solidarity with the countries on the borders of Europe, saying: "We need solidarity with the countries of arrival. And there was a lot of discussion about that."

She also hailed the conclusion of the negotiations: "After intensive discussion on perhaps the most challenging issue for the European Union, it’s a good message that we agreed on a common text," Politico cited Merkel as saying.
