NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the new formula of relations between NATO and the Russian Federation is "defense and dialogue", not "defense or dialog".
"We are not in the Cold War," he said speaking of the tense relations between the Alliance and Russia, "but there is not even the partnership that we work with for years".
"The NATO must be able to adapt and respond to challenges," he added.
Stoltenberg stressed the need to accommodate the NATO battalions on the eastern borders as a "limited" response to Russia's actions, which, according to the secretary general, seeks to demonstrate its military power.
