A resolution on the territorial integrity, sovereignty and inviolability of Azerbaijan’s borders has been adopted at the summer session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
This document underlines the need to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict on the basis of the principle of the sovereignty and inviolability of the countries’ borders. One of the most important points of the resolution is that the right to self-determination of people is unacceptable through the violation of the territorial integrity of the country or against the sovereignty and political independence of the country.
A political scientist, an MP of the Azerbaijani Mejlis, Rasim Musabekov, told Vestnik Kavkaza that the resolution "once again finds the policy of the international community unchanged in support of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan." "I appreciate the OSCE's confirmation of the views of the fundamental principle of international law," he said.
According to the analyst, we should not expect any direct consequences from the adoption of this resolution. "But I should said that recently there has been a definite erosion of international law, when formations applying for official status are appearing and trying to carry out some projects, they are invited somewhere. I do not think that this decision will automatically lead to the settlement of the existing conflicts," Rasim Musabekov concluded.
Professor of the Western University, political scientist Fikret Sadykhov, also said that this document does not contain anything new. "The OSCE initially supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and UN Security Council resolution adopted in 1993, it calls on Armenia to liberate our territories. This is a well-known fact, it is simply impossible not to recognize it," he said.
"In fact, this resolution can be assessed positively, because the territorial integrity of our country was confirmed once again and there was a call to free the occupied territories. But the question is that for nearly two decades everything has been limited only to appeals and resolutions, that's the thing," Fikret Sadikhov complained.
