Political challenges and economic pressure from the West are creating a security threat in Crimea, Russian Security Council secretary Nikolai Patrushev said.
“The threat of destabilization of the social and political situation in the Crimean Federal District remains," he noted at a Security Council session in Yalta.
According to him, Ukraine's authorities may destabilize the situation in Crimea, including the "ethnic factor”.
"Extremist, nationalist and paramilitary units are formed in Ukraine’s border areas," Interfax cited Patrushev as saying.
