Polish tourist drowns and climber from Lithuania dies in Kyrgyzstan

A tourist from Poland has drowned in a mountain river in Kyrgyzstan’s southern Batken region, the press service of the Central Asian republic’s Emergency Ministry said.

"The 36-year-old Polish national was caught in a torrent of the mountainous River Isfairam and drowned," the ministry stated.

In recent days, a heatwave affecting the whole country has caused flooding and burst banks of rivers and mountain lakes, which hamper the search operation. "Six rescuers from the mobile unit of the town of Kyzyl-Kiya are searching for the missing tourist’s body, but without any result," TASS cited the press service as saying.

Another incident occurred in the Issyk-Kul region, in which a climber from Lithuania died in the Gyeongsang Gorge.

"She arrived in our country on July 19 from Lithuania with a group of tourists. They travelled from Karakol Arashan but a rockfall engulfed them near the Chon Uson Glacier. As a result, one female climber was killed and another injured," the press service of the Emergencies Ministry said.
