Today Azerbaijan and Russia have very good relations, the President of the Academy of Sciences of the Chechen Republic Shakhraddin Gapurov said, speaking to Vestnik Kavkaza on the sidelines of the International Forum of the Caucasus Studies at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences in Baku.

He noted that such relations have been established since the formation of independent Azerbaijan.

"Chechnya and Azerbaijan have very long-standing relations, since the 19th century," Gapurov recalled. "They had special relations even in earlier times, because the Silk Road passed through Chechnya and Azerbaijan," the scientist said.

According to the President of the Academy of Sciences of the Chechen Republic, the strong relations between Chechnya and Azerbaijan, as well as the dialogue of cultures are very important.

He also said that the Chechen community in Baku has about two thousand people. "They help each other, constantly communicate. Well, and most importantly, they have established very good relations in Azerbaijan," Shahraddin Gapurov stressed.
