Putin: Syrian refugees are fleeing IS militants, not Assad

The Syrian refugees forced to leave their country are not fleeing Bashar al-Assad's regime but from the territories captured by the Islamic State terrorist organization, which has captured a significant part of the territory of the Republic, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"Of course we know that there are different approaches to the events in Syria. By the way, people are fleeing not from Bashar al-Assad's regime. They are fleeing IS, which has seized large areas in Syria and Iraq," RIA Novosti cited President Putin as saying.
