Terrorist forces are attempting to turn the Middle East and North Africa into a bridgehead to destabilize other countries, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a welcome address at a meeting of the Council of the heads of security services of the CIS member states.
According to him, the growing terror activities and the merging of radical groups with organized crime presents a threat of special concern, especially in the Middle East and Africa.
“The terrorists are using this region as a foothold, they are recruiting and training new militants, which could be used for destabilization efforts of other countries,” RIA Novosti cited Putin as saying.
