Republican party of Armenia cancels party convention

The congress the Republican party of Armenia was going to convene on November 11 will not take place, and instead, the party’s board will hold a broadened meeting, the press secretary of the party and a vice-speaker at the National Assembly Eduard Sharmazanov said.

According to him, 250 people will attend the meeting presided by Serzh Sargsyan, the party leader and a former Armenian president. 

The party's press secretary said that the party will decided at the meeting whether it will run in the early parliamentary elections or not. If the party decides to race in the election, it will also choose a top figure for the list, Haykakan Zhamanak reported.

The newspaper also reported, referring to its sources, that Vigen Sargsyan, a former defense minister, will be elected as deputy chairman and will top the electoral list.
