Today, as part of his speech at the 29th International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stated that the weakening of Syria contradicts the interests of the region and the entire Islamic world.
"Was the weakening of Syria in the interests of the Islamic world and Muslim neighboring countries? Did the destruction of Syria lead to the strengthening of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates?" the Iranian president asked.
At the same time, he focused on the fact that 84% of cases of violence, terror and murder in the world, unfortunately, occur in Islamic countries, in North Africa and West Asia. According to Rouhani, this indicates that the policy of Islamic states should be more responsible. "Is it acceptable that oil revenues are spent on purchasing bombs and rockets from the US, which are then dropped on Yemen? Is it acceptable that, through these revenues, they purchase American rockets and armor-piercing projectiles, to put them into the hands of terrorists who kill Muslims?" - he continued.
Rouhani stressed that massacres and bloodshed should not happen with the acquiescence of Muslims, adding that the money spent on arms purchases could be used to feed starving people in Muslim countries. He also expressed the opinion that Muslims are forced to join the terrorist organization Daesh because of cultural poverty.
"Isn't it a shame for the entire Islamic world that Muslims with small children are trying to get through cold water in winter, trying to find refuge in non-Islamic countries, where they were held at the gates and not allowed to come in?" he asked, stating that the reason for the formation of a negative image of Islam in the world is a lack of knowledge and understanding of the true goals of this religion.
The Iranian president urged Islamic scholars and theologians to educate the faithful and develop dialogue with them, and expressed confidence that the political, economic and cultural unity of the Islamic community will contribute to the fight against terrorism.
