Saakashvili: in Georgia protection of freedom of speech equals struggle for existence

The Georgian people have to physically defend freedom of speech in Georgia, like Ukrainian people do, Georgia's fugitive ex-president, Chairman of the Odessa Regional State Administration, Mikheil Saakashvili, posted on his page on Facebook.

He said that the protection of the last fortress of the freedom of speech is equal to the fight for Georgia. "No one should be surprised that I call on everyone for this battle, who has the power and opportunity to do it," Saakashvili noted.

According to him, Georgian people have to physically defend freedom of speech. "That’s what the history of European democracy teaches us. That’s how the Ukrainian people defended through peaceful resistance its freedom," he wrote.

He said that Bidzina Ivanishvili is acting like Yanukovych. "We should be ready that this provincial dictator will not even refrain from shooting own people,” he said.

He believes that Ivanishvili will share the fate of Yanukovych if Georgian people defend their dignity. He noted that no one should break into anywhere and overthrow anyone, "but we should be ready if we have to defend ourselves from the violent government; we should not let them kill free speech with use of brutal force,” Saakashvili added.
