Safa Mirzoyev tells Russian journalists about Milli Majlis

The head of the Parliamentary Office, Safa Mirzoyev, told Russian journalists about the work of the Legislative Assembly of Azerbaijan on the sidelines of official events held in the framework of the visit by representatives of the Russian media to Azerbaijan on the eve of the parliamentary elections on November 1st.

He said that the National Assembly building was built in 1980 for the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan SSR. In 2005 the reconstruction of the building was started. The plenary hall was designed for 360 deputies of the Supreme Soviet of the republic in Soviet times. In 1995, the Constitution of independent Azerbaijan was adopted, according to which the Parliament consisted of 125 members, Safa Mirzayev said, adding that the number of seats remains the same, but the number of deputies has decreased significantly.

The head of the Milli Majlis drew attention to the fact that all the conditions for deputies were created in the plenary hall: an electronic voting system, the possibility to speak from the deputies' seats. He noted that it holds meetings of various international organizations: the Council of Europe, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Parliamentary Assembly 'Euronest', the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.

The Milli Majlis holds two regular sessions in spring and autumn, Safa Mirzoyev reminded. The autumn session is partially completed. The head of the Milli Majlis said that after the elections, which will be held on November 1st, the parliament of the fifth convocation will be formed. It will begin its work in the middle of November, the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza reports.
