Severe heat expected in Armenia

A severe heat is expected to strike at Armenia in August, the chief of the Armenian Weather Forecast Center, Gagik Surenyan, said.

According to him, a hot cyclone is moving from Iraq's territory northward and will reach Caucasus already tomorrow and Armenia will remain under its influence until August 7.

"Hot air streams will mainly impact Ararat Valley and Syunik lowlands. Air temperature didn't exceeded 38 degree in recent two days, while starting form tomorrow it will start going one degree up every day," ARKA cited Surenyan as saying.

He added that the hottest days will be August 6 and 7. Air temperature may reach 36 degrees in daytime in Shirak, Kotayk, Gegharkunik, Aragatsotn and Vayots Dzor provinces' mountainous areas, and this is a quite high indicator for mountainous terrain.

Temperature in Lori may reach 36 degrees, in Tavush valleys it may reach 39 degrees and in Kotayk and Aragatsotn - 38-40. 

Yerevan residents will suffer from an up-to-41-degree heat. Air temperature may reach even 42 degrees in some areas. 

The chief weather forecaster said that these hot air streams will come directly from Arabian deserts, and therefore dust concentration in air will sharply increase and forward visibility will worsen. 

"Besides, air humidity will drop sharply.We advise the population to avoid direct sunlight at the time between 11:00 and 17:00, and we also warn them against heavy physical exercises outdoor. We also advise people to consume more liquid and abstain from spirits," Surenyan concluded.
