Head of Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi and his Ukrainian counterpart Anna Hopko held a meeting in Kiev.
During the meeting, Hopko, expressed her sympathies over the devastating earthquake that killed as many as 530 people in western Iran, and wished for a speedy recovery for the injured.
The Ukrainian MP went on to note the historical and friendly ties between the two countries, calling for removal of obstacles and activation of trade sectors aimed at improving the level of trade transactions between the two sides.
Hopko also called for the continuation of cooperation in the fields of agriculture, energy, science and education.
Boroujerdi, for his part, said the current trade volume between Iran and Ukraine is not in accordance with the level of friendly relations between the two sides, urging for more serious measures to improve bilateral trade transactions.
During the meeting, the two sides highlighted the significant role of parliaments in helping the governments and stressed the need for expansion of parliamentary interactions between Tehran and Kiev.
They also exchanged views on ways to improve regional and international cooperation, the Mehr news agency reported.
