Thousands of convicts pardoned in Uzbekistan

As many as 39,748 people have been pardoned in Uzbekistan within the execution of the decision on amnesty by the Senate of the Uzbek Parliament, the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

It was previously reported that the upper house of the Uzbek Parliament approved a resolution “On amnesty due to 24th anniversary of adoption of Uzbek Constitution” at the plenary session Oct.12, 2016.

The amnesty was applied to 5408 women, 893 young people, who have not turned 18 years in the moment of committing crime, as well as 1045 people over 60 years. Another 144 people were released due to the health condition, AKIpress reports.
