Anel Sydtykova became the first Kazakh athlete, who managed to swim over the English Channel. She swam over the 8-km distance in 15 hours.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated her on Twitter.
"The athlete Anel Sytdykova became the first ever representative of Kazakhstan, who could pass the English Channel. It is a great sample of an iron will, real mastery. Good job!" Tokayev wrote.
The 40-year-old woman several times failed to handle the task earlier. First she started trying in 2016. Only her third attempt was successful, Sputnik Kazakhstan reported.
