The United States has proposed a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on the sidelines of the upcoming U.N. General Assembly in New York, according to a U.S. government source.
The meeting, which Washington hopes will take place around September 25, would be the first face-to-face summit of the leaders of the two countries since the 1979 Iranian Revolution led to decades of tense bilateral relations, Kyodo reported.
According to a source, Washington's proposal has been conveyed to Tehran through France.
