Trump calls for step up in mosque surveillance

Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, has called for surveillance of US mosques to be ramped up following the worst mass shooting in modern US history, Financial Times reports.

Mr Trump on Monday accused Muslim communities in the US of failing to report individuals who could pose a terror threat, as he warned there were "thousands and thousands" of people living in the country who could do similar harm.

Addressing the aftermath of Sunday’s terror attack in Orlando, Mr Trump claimed on CNN that many people "knew [gunman Omar Mateen] was a whack-job," but they didn't report him. "For some reason the Muslim community does not report people like this," he said.
