U.S. President Donald Trump said he expected to talk with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Group of 20 summit in Osaka, Japan to be held on June 28-29.
Trump said earlier he was ready to impose another round of punitive tariffs on Chinese imports if he does not reach a trade deal with China’s president at the G20, Reuters reported.
Negotiations between China and the United States on a trade deal have stalled since talks broke down in early May, with both sides blaming the other.
Shortly afterward, the Trump administration raised tariffs to 25% on $200 billion of Chinese goods. Beijing responded by raising tariffs on $60 billion of U.S. exports and escalating its anti-American propaganda.
