Turkey imposes new restrictions on Russian wheat imports

Turkey has imposed new restrictions on Russian wheat imports, limiting them to 20-25 percent of all import licences issued for the commodity, SovEcon analysts said.

This information was confirmed by two top managers of Russian grain companies exporting to Turkey, the Vedomosti daily. However, a Russian Agriculture Ministry official said Turkey had so far sent no official notification of this.

Turkey stopped issuing  such import licences on March 15, and wheat exports have ground to a halt after Ankara slapped 130% duties on them.

The move was a reaction to Russia's ban on imports of Turkish tomatoes and some other vegetables imposed after a Turkish warplane shot down a Russian bomber over a Turkish-Syrian border in November 2015.
