Turkey to hold referendum on constitution on April 16

Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said the date for the referendum on whether to boost the executive branch will most likely be held on April 16.

“The claims that the president will rule the country with statutory decrees are an exaggeration and distortion. The president will not be given the power to eradicate the parliament. The public is being told lies. Our president has no hesitation. The referendum date is expected to be April 16,” Hurriyet Daily cited him as saying.

Earlier, the presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said that the legislation will be put to a nationwide vote on April 9 or 16.
