Turkmenistan and Iran plan to expand energy cooperation

During the visit of a delegation led by Turkmenistan’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Rashid Meredov, a meeting was held with Iran’s roads and urban development minister, Abbas Ahmad Akhoundi, who co-chairs the Iranian part of the joint intergovernmental Turkmen-Iranian trade and economic cooperation commission.


Turkmenistan’s delegation also took part in the 14th session of the joint commission. The forum’s agenda included issues covering various areas of bilateral cooperation. For example, the trade-economic and transportation-communications sectors, agriculture and water management, customs issues, cooperation between the two countries’ regions, communications, and information technologies.


Following the meeting, the sides signed a final protocol. They also signed a protocol on constructing a new road bridge at the Serakhs-Sarakhs (Turkmenistan-Iran) checkpoint.


The delegation also held a meeting with Iran's Minister of Petroleum Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, a message of the Turkmen government said. “During the meeting the sides exchanged views on the current state and prospects of relations between the two countries and considered the possibility of expanding bilateral cooperation in the energy sector,” Trend cited the message as saying.


Moreover, Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif and the Minister of Industry, Mining, and Trade, Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh.
