Two Israelis wounded in Jerusalem knife attack

Two people have been injured after a knifeman went on the rampage near Jerusalem's Damascus Gate in what Israeli security services are treating as a terrorist incident.

A man and teenager were stabbed by the "terrorist" who was later shot dead by police officers, according to Times of Israel.

"Around 6.20am the assailant entered through the Damascus Gate. He stabbed a man inside and began running from the scene. Along the way, he saw a 16-year-old boy and stabbed him as well," Express.co.uk cited a police spokesman as saying.

The spokesman said the suspected terrorist, a 19-year-old Palestinian man from the West Bank, was shot dead by armed officers at the scene.

Security chiefs have deployed additional troops around Jerusalem's Old City as a precaution against further attacks.

Paramedics said the man injured near the Damascus Gate was stabbed in the neck and head and was in a  “near-critical” condition.
