UNM member detained in Georgia for insulting police

Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs has detained a member of the United National Movement opposition, David Kirkitadze, for verbally and physically abusing the police and damage of property during the clash between law enforcers and opposition activists on the presidential inauguration day.

According to Georgian Deputy Interior Minister Natia Mezvrishvili, the videos taken on the day show "very clearly" how Kirkitadze violated the law and abused the police, Agenda.ge reported.

The republic's Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia thanked police for showing restraint and apologised to them as several policemen received injuries during the clash. He vowed that everyone, no matter of their political or other status, will be held accountable for abusing the police staff.
