US Secretary of Defense may visit Georgia this summer

The Georgian Defense Ministry announced a possible visit of the Pentagon chief Ashton Carter to the republic this summer.

"The Georgian Defense Minister Tina Khidasheli and the Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, Elissa Slotkin, discussed in Munich a possible visit of the Pentagon chief to Georgia," RIA Novosti cited the ministry as saying.

Elissa Slotkin once again reaffirmed the US support for Georgia on the path of its NATO integration and assured that Washington will provide even greater assistance to Tbilisi to strengthen its defense.

"At the meeting it was clearly stated that Georgia is an important strategic partner," the Defense Ministry added.
