Yerevan anniversary festival postponed for October

The Erebuni-Yerevan festival will be held on October 20-21, Armenia's Territorial Administration and Development Minister Suren Papikyan said at a government meeting.

The festival marking the establishment anniversary of the Armenian capital city is usually held every second Saturday of October, but this year it was to be held September 29-30, ahead of the Francophone summit, slated for October 7-12 to be hosted by Yerevan.

Besides, Elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan will be held on September 23, ARKA reported.

Erebuni (Yerevan) was founded in 782 BC by king Argishti the First. The cornerstone, on which the year of foundation was carved, is still intact kept at Erebuni Fortress Museum.

Yerevan was proclaimed the capital of the First Republic of Armenia on May 28, 1918. Yerevan Day is celebrated annually, starting from 1968.  This year the Armenian capital is becoming 2,800 years old.
