The provocations of Armenia and the aggressive rhetoric of the country’s leadership show that Yerevan wants to aggravate the situation in the region and disrupt the implementation of the peace treaty. Armenia does not want peace and has not abandoned its territorial claims.

Today, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry issued a statement in connection with the situation in the area of the Lachin corridor. Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic announced that the detours of the Lachin road were taken under control amid an active work carried out by illegal Armenian military formations for the supply of weapons and the construction of new bypass roads.

The supply of weapons by the Armenian illegal armed formations continued until today, despite the appeals of Azerbaijan, the ministry notes. In addition, the construction of backroads to bypass the Lachin road has recently begun.

The intention of the Armenian side to deliberately aggravate the situation in the region was manifested by provocations on March 5, on the Khankendi-Khalfali-Turshsu road and on March 20, in the direction of the Zangilan region, as a result of which there were killed and injured among Azerbaijani servicemen.

The provocations were accompanied by aggressive rhetoric of the Armenian leadership, the Foreign Ministry reports. The President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of Armenia make statements against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. This is "a vivid example that the country has not yet abandoned its territorial claims against Azerbaijan," the statement reads.

The Armenian provocations is an evidence that Armenia seeks to deliberately disrupt the peace process on the backdrop of recent intensification of international efforts. Thus, the country shows disinterest in ensuring peace and stability in the region, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry informs.

“We call on Armenia to refrain from provocative actions and statements that aggravate the situation in the region, from interfering in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan and to fulfill its obligations, instead of continuing attempts to mislead the international community,”

- the Ministry’s of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan statement runs.

The ministry also pointed out that in order to stop illegal activities in the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan, it is necessary to establish a border crossing and a checkpoint between Azerbaijan and Armenia at the end of the Lachin road.
