Yevgeny Bazhanov: BRICS leaders call on the world to cooperate

The pentalateral meeting of the presidents of Russia, China, India, Brazil and South Africa, which was held this weekend, showed the importance of the equal international cooperation to oppose domination attempts of one power center, the rector of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Yevgeny Bazhanov, who visited the studio of Vestnik Kavkaza today, said, commenting the results of the BRICS summit in India's Goa, which he attended as part of the Russian delegation.

In the first place, Yevgeny Bazhanov said that for the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry the BRICS Summit in Goa was also fruitful. "We have signed an agreement on cooperation between the Diplomatic Academies of the five countries in the presence of the leaders of our countries," he said.

"The summit was very productive, and the attitude and communication between the leaders of the five countries  was friendly. During the pentalateral meeting the general sense was that it is useful to cooperate in such a complex and contradictory world, where some countries are trying not only lead, but impose their will on others, and not only in the framework of international relations, but also interfering in the internal affairs of other countries," the rector of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Yevgeny Bazhanov stressed that the agenda was positive. "It was emphasized that our five countries are in favor of respect for international law and equality in international relations. There were also calls for a broad international cooperation on those problems, which are a challenge for all of us – terrorism, environment, settlement of local and regional conflicts," he noted.

Despite the fact that every head of state put one of these aspects at the forefront in his speech, the common setting for cooperation has been supported by everyone. "I mean the pentalateral cooperation within BRICS and extensive cooperation with other countries, including the West. We all know that the world has become so interdependent that these problems can be solved only if we unite," the rector of the Diplomatic Academy noted.

Yevgeny Bazhanov also expressed confidence that the next BRICS summit, which will be hosted by China, will focus on economic issues. "For China, the economic topic is the main thing. China's economy is now experiencing congestion, the old model of export orientation does not work effectively, there are problems in production, marketing, finance, and employment," he recalled.

"China is now engaged in a variety of projects, including such large as the Silk Road, and we should expect that at the next summit it will offer to promote our participation in these projects, to develop cooperation with each BRICS countries individually and within the BRICS, as well as between the BRICS and other countries. In addition to economic issues the social theme is expected," the rector of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry concluded.
