Yevkurov: we can counter extremism only through comprehensive measures

Parents and teachers should be the idols of today's youth, not some random people who project the ideology of religious extremism, the head of Ingushetia, Yunus-bek Yevkurov, believes.

According to Yevkurov, the authorities should conduct enhanced preventive work, together with the clergy, society and the parents of young people.

Part of the bandit underground in the North Caucasus doesn't support IS, Yevkurov said. According to him, IS represents a threat to Russia, but this danger will be given a fitting rebuff in any case.

Yunus-bek Yevkurov told Vestnik Kavkaza that Ingushetia is engaged in a complex fight against extremism in the youth environment. "Firstly, prevention is the most important direction. We are starting from school lessons of religion, where we tell children what religious extremism is. If we look at the situation in the North Caucasus, the majority of extremists and terrorists began with a religious direction. We show children that religion actually prevents, prohibits killing, explosions, incitement of ethnic, sectarian strife. All religions, including Islam, welcome only peaceful solutions," he said.

"The second is that all universities have a certain group of people who preach at the invitation of the youth. The third is fairly serious work in the television and the media on youth issues, including the transfer of existing experience of world practice. Then, the execution of doctrinal documents and the implementation of plans and programs to combat extremism and terrorism, the prevention of crimes and other types of trends, which we have developed ourselves," Yunus-bek Yevkurov said.

The head of Ingushetia noted the activities of public organizations in the country. "Among them are the council of teips, the traditional council of public organizations and youth organizations. They organize interviews with relatives of detained or killed people, or the members of the bandit underground, or those committed to extremism at these meetings. This affects people very much," Yunus-bek Yevkurov concluded.
