Iran finds new gas field

Iranian specialists have discovered a new gas field in the Persian Gulf's Hormozgan province, with estimated reserves of 70 billion cubic m of gas, RIA Novosti reports, citing an ILNA interview with Iranian Oil Minister Masud Mirkazemi.

The minister said that the gas field is located to the east of the port Bender-Lenge and 140 km away from the Bander-Abbas port. 72% of the gas reserves are extractable.

The minister said that the total gas reserves in Iran reached 33.1 trillion cubic m, oil reserves – 150.3 billion barrels.

Iran is the world’s fourth largest oil exporter and the second largest exporter as OPEC member, producing over 4 million barrels of oil daily. However, UN SC sanctions and unilateral measures taken by the USA against Iran prevent major international energy companies from investing into Iranian energy sector.
