OPEC celebrates 50th anniversary

The Azerbaijani Minister of Industry and Energy, Natik Aliyev, will visit Riyadh on October 18-20 to participate at the International Energy Forum, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of OPEC. Aliyev will make the visit after an invitation from the Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources of Saudi Arabia, Ali Al-Naimi, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Industry and Energy says, Trend reports.


Oil Ministers of OPEC members, authorities of oil-related state structures and companies and high-ranking guests from transnational energy companies will be at the forum.


King  Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia and Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz, the Deputy Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs, will be at the opening ceremony.


Natik Aliyev will make a speech at the forum and will read a letter of congratulations from Azerbaijani President Ilkham Aliyev to the participants at the forum and the king of Saudi Arabia.


The forum's schedule includes bilateral meetings of ministers of oil and energy, including meetings with the minister of oil and mineral resources of Saudi Arabia, the management of ARAMCO and other officials. Natik Aliyev will also take part in a presentation by the Azerbaijani embassy in Saudi Arabia called ‘Azerbaijan and the Organization of the Islamic Conference: achievements and prospects’.


The Azerbaijani minister of industry and energy had participated in OPEC sessions earlier in December 2008 in Algiers and in March 2009 in Austria. Azerbaijan has observer status in OPEC.
