The contracts on construction of copper-smelting, copper refinery and
enriching plants on Sungun mines (in East Azerbaijan) are planned to
be signed in September, Iran News reports citing IRNA.
Director General of the Iranian copper smelting industry company,
Ardashir Saadmohammadi, met the governor of East Azerbaijan province,
noting that the contracts will most likely be signed with the
contractors. Realization of the projects will go ahead according to
schedule.
According to Saadmohammadi, overall investment in the projects is
projected at $1.2 billion. One of the projects involves construction
of the second-stage enrichment plant. Capital investment in this
project is $180 million and will be completed in 3 years.
Construction of copper-smelting and copper refinery plants will
require investments of $750 million and $250 million respectively.
They will take 39 and 36 months for completion.
Saadmohammadi reported that the annual output of the Sungun
copper-smelting plant will be 200 thousand tons, and the copper
refinery plant – 100 thousand tons.
He added that the plants will contribute to the region’s employment
level and economic development.
