Kazakhstan can create its own market to utilize manufacturing waste,
the chairman of the Association of Oil Companies KAZENERGY, Timur
Kulibayev, said in his opening speech at a forum in Atyrau today, the
association’s press-service told VK.
They will find out about the best technologies to utilize waste used
by companies and draw on the experience of small Kazakh companies.
This shows that small and medium business is becoming familiar with
the market, Kulibayev said.
At the same time the head of Tengizshevroil (TSO), Todd Levi, believes
that the Kazakh waste utilizing market has just started developing.
He noted that few companies are processing waste. This opens a unique
chance for entrepreneurs, using foreign experience to prevent mistakes
and start developing using advanced technologies, Levi said in Atyrau.
The Director General of TSO noted that waste utilization is a
profitable business, pointing out the active development of companies
specializing in this sphere. According to statistics in the USA, 33%
of waste is being processed. This figure continues to grow due to the
expediency of this sphere.
According to the press service, manager of environment of
KarachaganakPetroliumOperating (KPO) Louis Jacobs noted that, since
his company started operating in the Karachaganak field, the company
has invested over $156 million on implementing specific environmental
protection events for improving ecological indicators in the field.
Gas utilization in 2009 by KPO reached 99.86%, one of the best
indicators in the sphere of gas utilization. Louis Jacobs informed the
participants of the forum about the center for waste management (an
Eco-center), which opened in 2009.
“By virtue of the Eco-center, KPO can now extract and reuse expensive
base oil, which makes up 65% of drilling solutions on an oil basis, to
dissociate base oil from water, reducing the amount of waste on a
temporary platform”, Louis Jacobs told at the forum.
The forum was participated in by over 70 Kazakh and international
companies from the oil and gas sphere.
This is the third such forum. In the previous year (2008-2009) the
forum was held by three operators in the oil and gas sector:
Tengizshevroil (TSO), Karachaganak Petrolium Operating (KPO) and North
Caspian Operating Company (NCOC). In 2010, the association KAZENERGY,
as the main organizer, initiated a major campaign to invite
representatives from the country’s government and parliamentary
deputies.
