Azerbaijan to build gas liquefaction terminal in Georgia

An agreement on building a gas liquefaction terminal in Georgia is to be signed in Bucharest on April 13th. According to the Georgian Energy Ministry the agreement will be signed by the energy ministers of Azerbaijan, Romania and Georgia.

According to the memorandum of mutual cooperation in the gas sphere, two gas liquefaction terminals will be built - one in Georgia and another in Romania. The cost of the project is estimated at $4 to $6 billion. "Transit projects are very important for the Georgian economy, since they provide additional income for the budget," - commented the Georgian energy minister, reports Business Georgia.

The Minister noted that, as a result of the agreement, Georgia will have additional access to gas. "This project reconfirms the significance of Georgia as a transit state, providing one of the alternative gas transit routes for the EU outside of Russia," - he added.
