Mohammed Roayan, the head of the Iranian Committee for Transport and Fuel said that his country is able to become achieve entire self-sufficiency in supplies of fuel and combustive-lubricating products this year. He said that under normal circumstances Iran would be unable to achieve self-sufficiency this year, but if sanctions are imposed on imports of fuel in the Islamic republic, sharp increase in production of gasolinr during a quarter is quite achievable, reports MIGnews.
"With due account taken of the efforts made by the Ministry of Oil, production of fuel will soon increase by 10 million liters per day," Mohammed Roayan said during an interview given to the Mehr news agency.
Roayan sais that at present Iran consumes 62 million liters per day, 45 million of which are produced in the country's territory.
