Russia and Italy are convinced that Iran must present its proposal on
exchanging low-enriched (3.5%) uranium for highly-enriched (up to 20%)
on the territory of Turkey to the IAEA, Italian Foerign Minister
Franco Frattini told a press-conference after the first round of
Russian-Italian talks, RIA Novosti reports.
VK reported earlier that the trilateral agreement on nuclear fuel
exchange was signed on May 17th after the arrival of Brazilian
President Luiz Inacio da Silva and Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip
Erdogan in Tehran to discuss the issue with top Iranian officials. As
a result, the Turkish and Brazilian sides agreed on Iran sending 1.2
tons of low-enriched uranium in exchange for 120 kg of nuclear fuel
within a year. The material is intended for Tehran’s research reactor.
