Council of Europe human rights commissioner Thomas Hammarberg arrives
in Tbilisi today. According to Trend the program of the visit has not been
revealed yet.
Preliminary information says that Hammarberg will meet the local
authorities in Tskhinvali. His main objective is the release of people
detained by Georgia and Ossetia since the Russian-Georgian war in
August 2008.
According to Hammarberg’s declaration in PACE yesterday, both sides
have released 100 prisoners, however, many more are waiting for
separate decisions from the Tskhinvali and Georgian authorities.
