Georgia establishes ties with Uzbekistan

The Georgian Minister of Economic Development Zurab Popolikashvili
visited Uzbekistan to meet with management at the Asian Bank of
Development, Georgia Times reports.


Popolikashvili met the first deputy head of Uzbekistan's government,
Minister of Finance Rustam Azimov and Minister of Foreign Economic
Ties Eler Ganiyev.


This is the first top-level visit to Tashkent by a highly-placed
Georgian official in recent years.


Uzbek officials welcomed the Georgian minister and said that they
consider Georgia a strategic partner and are interested in deeper
economic cooperation.


The expansion of economic and tourist industry ties was discussed at
the meeting, among other issues, including the Transport Corridor
Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA).
