Iran proposes that Tajikistan should cancel visa regime

ran has proposed that Tajikistan should cancel the visa regime for
citizens of both countries, Ferghana.ru reports. The issue was
considered at negotiations in Dushanbe yesterday between delegations
from Iran and Tajikistan. According to the Iranian ambassador to
Tajikistan, Aliasgar Sherdust, Tajikistan is not ready for such a
decision.


The head of the information department at the Tajik Foreign Ministry,
Davlat Nazri, said the Foreign Ministry cannot make decisions on the
issue on its own, it will be discussed at a session of the countries'
consulates on May 7th.


This issue has already been discussed. Tajik citizens can travel to
former USSR countries and Turkey without visas.


Earlier, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hasan Kashkovi met with Tajik
Premier Rukiya Kurbanov. Today Kashkovi is meeting the chairman of the
lower chamber of the Tajik parliament, Shukurdzhon Zukhurov. On May
6th, the Iranian delegation will have a meeting on consulate issues
with Tajikistan.
