GUAM plans joint meetings

The Secretary-General of GUAM (Organization for Democracy and Economic
Development) Valery Chechelashvili visited Georgia on May 3-5. He met
the Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister David Jalaganiya and discussed
various issues, mainly the implementation of GUAM projects. The sides
exchanged their views on the session of the Council of National
Coordinator of GUAM, Trend reports.


Jalaganiya met the Vice-Premier, Minister of Regional Development and
Infrastructure David Tkeshelashvili and discussed the Transport
Transit Corridor, border cooperation and the improvement of national
programs on the development of transport infrastructure. There is also
a session planned for the transport working group at the end of May in
Baku.


At a meeting with Georgian Energy Minister Alexander Khetaguri the
sides discussed alternate energy sources and energy efficiency. They
welcomed the readiness of Japan to cooperate with GUAM on energy
issues. They also exchanged views on the date and place of the next
meeting of the energy working group.


At a meeting with Minister of Economic Development Zurab
Popolikashvili they discussed the importance of better use of
instruments and legal mechanisms to create a good business sphere for
businessmen and investors. They plan to attract approximately 1,000
tourists from Japan in 2011. They discussed the meeting of the working
group on tourism in to be held in June in Baku.
