Iran supports Tajik energy projects

Iran is ready to provide Tajikistan with any necessary assistance in
improving the lives of its citizens, Defense Minister of Iran Ahmad
Vahidi said after a meeting with Tajik Defense Minister Sherali
Khayrulloyev, Iran News reports.


Vahidi noted that Tajikistan possesses great resources. Its hydro
plants can supply neighboring countries and Iran will help Tajikistan
make use of the opportunity.


Vahidi told the journalists that Iran promotes military cooperation
with Afghanistan and Tajikistan to provide security in the region.
Such cooperation will be a benefit in the fight against drugs and
terrorism. He added that Iran plans to sign a memorandum with
Tajikistan deepening military-technical cooperation.


The Iranian minister met with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in the
first part of the day. The press service of the Tajik president noted
that Rahmon is satisfied with the current state of cooperation and
expects development in all spheres.
Vahidi will also meet the head of the upper chamber of the Tajik
parliament and visit the under-construction Sangtudin GES-2 hydro
power plant, financed by Iran.
