U.S. State Department envoy visits Georgia

Ambassador Tina Kaidanow, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for
European and Eurasian Affairs had a closed-door meeting with Georgian
parliamentary and non-parliamentary opposition, News Georgia reports.

The main issue of discussion was the May 30 local elections in Georgia
and the Tbilisi mayoral elections.

A spokesman for the parliamentary opposition, deputy chairman of
Christian-Democrats fraction Nika Laliashvili told journalists that
the party has regular contact with the US State Department and the
envoy's visit before the elections is important.

A spokesman for the non-parliamentary opposition, the leader of The

the lack of positive changes in the issues around the Georgian
election, the struggle must continue.
